Shexian walnut, a special product of Shexian County, Handan City, Hebei Province, is a national geographical indication product of China. Shexian County is one of the key walnut-producing counties in China. There are 100,000 walnut trees over a century old distributed in the county. In 2004, She County was rated as "Hometown of Walnuts in China". In 2007, Shexian walnuts were selected as "Recommended Fruits for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games". On August 25, 2005, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine approved the protection of geographical indication products for "Shexian Walnut".

There are many varieties of walnuts in Shexian County, among which the thin-skinned walnuts produced in Shimen and Wencun are of the best quality. Its characteristic is that the skin is thin and the kernels are full, the color is golden, and the oil content is as high as 60%. If you touch a walnut with two hands, the skin will break and the whole kernel will come out naturally. The more you chew in your mouth, the more fragrant it becomes, nourishing body fluid.

Shexian County has a long history of walnut cultivation. According to legend, it has been nearly two thousand years. Its high yield and high quality are one of the "three treasures" in Shexian County. The walnuts in Shexian County are mainly produced in the west and north. For thousands of years, the masses have continuously summed up experience and lessons in walnut cultivation and management, explored and accumulated many successful experiences in walnut production, and there are a large number of large trees over 500 years old that can still bear fruit normally. She County is one of the key walnut-producing counties in China. It ranks first in Hebei Province and fourth in China in the county-level walnut production rankings.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the walnut cultivation in Shexian County became more and more effective. In the early 1960s, the annual output of walnuts in the county was 1,250 tons. By the end of the 1970s, the output reached 2,350 tons. By the end of the 1990s, the output reached 3,500 tons.

After 1998, Shexian walnuts entered the stage of industrialization development. In 1998, based on the advantages of the dry fruit industry, the Shexian County Party Committee and the county government proposed the "two dragons and one hundred stars" (two dragons are walnuts and peppercorns) industry development strategy, which injected new vigor and vitality into the development of the walnut industry in Shexian County.

In 2000, Shexian County issued the "Notice of Shexian County People's Government on Further Accelerating the Construction of Walnut Industry Base".

In 2001, She County issued the "Assessment Measures for the Construction of Walnut Orchards in the Science and Technology Corridor".

Since 2002, Shexian County has focused on adjusting the industrial structure, further clarified the leading industry position of walnut in Shexian County, and proposed the goal of building "China's No. 1 Walnut Township".

        In 2004, She County produced more than 6,000 tons of walnuts annually, with an annual output value of more than 48 million yuan.

        In 2007, Shexian County had built 60 standardized demonstration gardens for walnuts. The area of the demonstration gardens has expanded year by year, with a total output of about 8 million kilograms. The price per kilogram is 16 yuan, and the income is about 128 million yuan.

        In 2015, the walnut planting area in Shexian County was 433,000 mu, and the walnut planting area and output ranked first in Hebei Province and in the forefront of China. Five walnut orchards of 10,000 mu, 20 walnut orchards of 1,000 mu, 8 professional walnut townships, and 100 professional walnut villages have been built, with an annual walnut trading volume of more than 40,000 tons and an annual processing capacity of more than 20,000 tons. The county's rural per capita income from walnuts accounts for 40% of farmers' net income.
